Interview with Riko Kruit of EVISE

At FutureNed, we like to work with partners who share our vision. Riko Kruit, co-founder of EVISE, is one of those partners. His company focuses on providing smart charging solutions specially designed for complex situations. With the aim of using the available energy as efficiently as possible, this mission perfectly aligns with our battery solutions. In this interview, Riko talks more about our partnership, the challenges and opportunities within the transport sector.

FutureNed offers a host of battery solutions, including the EV193 which you primarily sell. Why did you choose FutureNed as your partner?

‘When I saw that there was a new provider on the Dutch market for charging solutions with integrated battery storage like FutureNed's EV193, my interest was immediately piqued. Because I constantly keep an eye on news in the energy market, I actually came into contact with FutureNed's managing director Roy Dofferhoff right after it was founded. The contact with Roy was very pleasant from the start. We were able to learn a lot from each other in the overlapping areas of our businesses. You could even say that we have been quite pioneering in offering our battery solutions!’

One of your biggest target groups is the logistics and transport sector. What challenges and needs do you see in this sector in terms of energy transition?

‘That is indeed true. This mainly has to do with the zero-emission legislation that will come into force in 2025 in a number of cities. This ‘obliges’ transport companies to electrify. Although the financial picture is sometimes another reason to postpone, we regularly explain in our talks with entrepreneurs that it is always more expensive if they do nothing. In the long run, investing in electrification is no longer a choice, but a question of being able to serve customers or not.

The needs of this sector are mainly in the speed at which vehicles need to be charged. At the same time, the existing electricity network is often insufficient to achieve this. This is where our solutions come in, such as the EV193, which enables fast charging on a small grid connection and without any real peak load. Moreover, the EV193 is operational within a few hours and easy to relocate, for example when there is a change in the layout of the fleet or just the car park. This makes the EV193 a practical and future-proof solution for transport companies.’

How do you see the market for charging solutions developing in the coming years?

‘Grid congestion will certainly remain a challenge for decades to come. Despite more and more electricity solutions, the demand for electricity is only growing. In fact, the transition has only just begun. We need to be smarter with the electricity grid and batteries are the solution in this in some cases. Taking EV193 as an example, we are already seeing these systems grow in capacity and power. Right now, we are already working on a charging station with an integrated battery of 500 kWh. I see this growing further in the coming years to multiple MegaWatt-hours of storage with an output of 1MW, allowing even heavier machines and larger fleets to be electrified (more easily).’

We are very grateful to have EVISE as a partner of FutureNed.  Together, we look forward to helping more entrepreneurs make the energy transition ever easier with our battery solutions!
